Program Highlights
1. Experience of both Qilu Culture and Gansu Culture
Participants of this program can experience the different cultures in Shandong and Gansu within one trip. Shandong was known as Qilu in ancient times. It was the home of the Qi and Lu states during the spring and autumn (770-476 BC) as well as the Warring States between 475-221 BC. The province is the birthplace of Confucius and Mencius as well as one of the roots of Chinese traditional civilizations. Gansu is a meeting point of agricultural and nomadic civilizations as well as Central Plains and Western cultures, with unique Long cuisine, rich local customs, and historic cultural cities contributing to the comprehensive cultural identity of Gansu.
2. Emphasis on Professionalism and Cutting-Edge Research
The summer school program specifically invites top archaeologists from Shandong University, who not only possess deep academic expertise in their research fields but also stay abreast of international academic frontiers. The course content covers both classic theories and methods of archaeology as well as hot topics currently being discussed in the archaeological community.
3. Combination of Practice and Theory
The program not only focuses on the transmission of theoretical knowledge but also emphasizes the importance of practical operation. Through visits to laboratories, museums, and field trips, participants can experience hands-on processes such as archaeological excavation, artifact restoration, thereby deepening their understanding of theoretical knowledge and enhancing practical skills.
4. Cross-Cultural Exchange Platform
The Archaeological Forum for Chinese and International Postgraduates at Shandong University, and Silk Road Sustainable Development at Lanzhou University are two major highlights of the program, providing a platform for participants to showcase their research results, exchange academic ideas, and establish cooperative relationships. Through this forum, participants can meet peers from different countries and cultural backgrounds, broaden their international horizons, and enhance mutual understanding and friendship.
